In this Genomics Lite session, Sam and Jack speak to staff from the Wellcome Sanger Institute who worked on the landmark initiative, the Human Genome Project. We discussed what it was like working on this groundbreaking project, how things have changed since its completion and finding out whose genome was sequenced as part of the very first draft human genome!

Nancy Holroyd, Samples and Partner Relationship Manager, Wellcome Sanger Institute
Nancy leads the Sample Management team within the Tree of Life Programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. The work of the team supports bringing samples into the programme to support the its scientific aims. Prior to joining the Tree of Life Programme, Nancy spent 10 years working with parasitic worms and their genomes, plus several posts in different teams at the Sanger Institute since joining the institute (for the second time) in 1997.
Elizabeth Easthope, Team Lead Sequencing Operations, Wellcome Sanger Institute
Liz is a Team Lead in the Sequencing Operations department at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where she oversees RNA short-read library creation to support cutting-edge research. With a focus on delivering high-quality data, she leads her team to navigate the challenges of working with diverse and limited samples while utilizing high-throughput processes. Liz is dedicated to staying at the forefront of emerging technologies and techniques to ensure the Institute continues to advance its mission of improving healthcare outcomes.
