Job title: Research Software Engineer

What do I do: I work part-time in a group supporting the high performance computing on site. My time is spent either helping our scientists with their computing problems or developing things that will help make the lives of our scientists better in the future, for example looking at how we store our data.

Skills I use in my job:

Coding

I work with technology and information every day so I am always needing to use code.

Problem solving

I am trying to solve why something isn’t quite working the way it should and often it can be 2 or 3 things causing the issue.

Teamwork

We all work together to solve the problems that come in to our team. We have lots of different expertise between us.

Communication

It’s only possible to help people with their problems by communicating with them, that way we can also help to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
